There are places in the US where different local laws come into force, some are strange and seen as local customs, but some adopt the national lines on things like speeding and bad driving, no State tolerates either yet there are whole load of variations in the way that these misdemeanors are treated.

Take the State if Indiana, they have come up with some really teeth gritting fines that are guaranteed to get the attention of any driver.

As from July 1st, they are allowed to lower speed limits without warning, and where there are road works, they can fine any driver who creeps over the 45mph $300, do it twice and its $500, but if you it on a third occasion you will be handed a fine of $1000, it the driver decided to appeal and subsequently lost, it would cost another $70, now you would not want to do that all in one day!

But by far the most interesting is the fines attributed to drivers who display aggressive demeanor, this is where say you are driving through a work zone and you have a car doing 45mph but your doing slightly more and having to slow down and speed up, etc, so you flash the car in front with your headlights, that will cost you $5000, get caught doing that again and then you are in the big league, you will be slapped with a $10,000 fine, possibility of three years in jail and of course record that can affect many things that you take for granted.

A careless driver out of State driver could have a bad time in Indiana!
