A few years ago now when Rover hit the wall, there were a few promising ideas coming out of the design center, naturally as the finances dried up and the takeover talks failed then all the plans and designs also hit the wall and have for all we know stayed there, but that was 2004 and today the MG plant on Long bridge, UK is operational again all be it with a fraction of the staff that worked there before.

One concept that MG did manage to get to concept stage was a sports version of the Rover 75, the MG7 coupe, this car along with the dreams of the design disappeared along with everything else, however it is believed that the parent company Nanjing Automotive are looking to get this car into production, this will be a great turnaround for the group, as they have just started to go into production of the MG TF sport cars, but this car is already dated and if nothing new is in the pipeline then MG will fail again.

The reason why companies like MG Rover fail is because the lack of investment in new design and new plant, it is no coincidence that the major players like ford have huge debts, but that is the cost of retooling and design, then they reap the rewards later on, or that is the theory.
MG is a classic brand, but has never really been a high flying sports brand because of its association with other brands, being an option to be added to another model rather than a stand alone car maker, but it is now and this is the best chance that this car company has had for a ling time.
