The authorities in the Canadian province of Ontario are waging war on street racers. They plan to seize any car that has been modified for the purpose of street racing.
Street racing is probably the most exciting yet seriously dangerous thing that you can do in car, it replicate what you see on computer games such a grand turismo driving through the streets of a city, racing against other cars and drivers who feel exactly the same, yet at the same time they can put peoples lives at risk, like other drivers, pedestrians and just about any one else who is in the vicinity of the road.

Which is why Ontario Attorney General, Michael Bryant is putting together a plan that will allow the authorities to seized any car that appears to have been modified for the purpose of street racing, this could mean just by adding performance parts to the car, so owners should be very careful what they do with their cars from now on, as they could easily fall foul of the authorities and see their pride and joy seized and crushed.

There are some worries about the potential seizures as in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, there is a part that states,
“Everyone has the right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure.”
Which seems to not fall in line with the policy of seizing the vehicles, sometimes even if they have never been involved in street racing at all.
Clearly we will be hearing more about this in the days and weeks to come.

There’s more to it than that. Early this week, 3 street racers on Hwy 400 caused a transport trucker driver to swerve, to avoid killing people in other vehicles. As a result, he died saving others from death. I’ve never been a street racer, but back when I had my Subaru GT, if there was open road away from densely populated areas, I’ve hit the highs. But despite my love of “street” cars, having had to get out of the way of careless, insensitive street racers, I’m glad of this crackdown. Unfortunately, they’ve ruined it for everyone else that drives fast but carefully.
