This may come as bit of a surprise for such a prestigious car show like Detroit not to have a Porsche stand anywhere in the show.

Could it be that there are no more Porsche buyers around in Detroit? Or maybe Porsche themselves feel that the city has been completely Porsched out over years and that they would be wasting time and effort in setting up there in the first place?
The answer could be a bit of both, Porsche want to expand the North American customer base, so in order to do this they would need to forget about the established territories for now and seek out new places that have not seen a Porsche stand, where they can touch and sit inside the cars, get a feel of what they are missing, this is what it is all about.

The main markets for Porsche have always been the east and west coasts of the US, so clearly they will be making a big effort to concentrate on where they are selling the most cars. Last year there were 290 cars sold in Michigan, but in California the figure was 8827 and the figure for New York was 2172, so it is clear where their market is and Porsche will be concentrating on the Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Chicago, Toronto and Washington auto show in order to expand their marketplace in those areas.
Have Porsche done the right thing? We shall have to wait and see.
