According the Ontario Police Commissioner Julian Fantino, the definition of street racing is if you are driving 30 mph (50 kph) over the speed limit, if a driver is caught hitting this speed then they will be deemed as being a street racer and then the powers that we spoke about last week in the posting with the title “Ontario To Stop Street Racing” which will see the car seized and crushed.

The authorities are taking a zero tolerance stance on the subject of street racing, since a taxi driver going about his daily business was killed, when a Mercedes Benz that was involved in a street race with another high powered luxury car, hit the taxi drivers cab. This was followed by the authorities increasing the fine for street racing from $1000 to $10,000.

Since then the Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant announced that the police had the full authority to seized any modified car and any high performance car parts to be seized and then crushed, with no warrant needed.

Now they have come up with what they see as the definition of street racing, just 30 mph (50 kph) over the speed limit will be defined as street racing. The Police commissioner has visited the US state of Ohio, where the authorities there use planes to track and catch high end speeders. In fact while he was there the Ohio police caught eight speeders in just thirty minutes. Could this be the shape of things to come?
