It appears that the top people at Mercedes are a bit disappointed with the performance of the SLR McLaren as compared to other cars within the same category. Which could the reason why they are teaming up with their official DTM racing partner, HWA AG to build the next Mercedes super sports car.

HWA was founded by Hans Werner Aufrecht way back in 1967, he also founded the HWA racing team and of course was one of the founders of AMG, and so the penny drops, AMG have also been synonymous with the high end range of Mercedes cars and it looks like they may be returning to the fold.
The new car is likely to be a race car that has been prepared for the road, possibly powered by the 6.2 liter V8 engine hand built from AMG, and will bear the name Mercedes AMG, if everything goes according to plan then it should be possible for this to be on show at next years Geneva Motor Show.

With all this investing going on, HWA is supposed to be investing 4.5 million euros into expansions plans for their plant, so what about McLaren? Well it is rumored that despite these changes, it is highly likely that Mercedes will be buying out the McLaren F1 Team and running it as a works team, obviously this is just rumors but all the signs are pointing in that direction for the moment.
