VW of America are searching for a VW, but not just any old car they want to find the oldest VW car or van that is still running and using its original engine. This not just a clever piece of marketing, but the company trying to educate the American market into the fact that diesel can be thought of as a clean and eco friendly fuel and possibly something to do with them launching their new Jetta TDI (Turbo Charged Diesel Injection) next February.

The move is show that diesel power can last a very long time, and as we all know they are economical, it is just diesels have a bad reputation of being noisy and smoky, which they were in the past, but today the diesel is a completely different type of engine.
The contest has already attracted over 115 cars, and what is even more surprisingly is that there are over twenty cars that have completed more than half a million miles, and there is one, that will take come beating as it has nearly 900,000 miles on the clock, now that is a lot of diesel.
There is a good case for diesel, as we have seen with Honda, VW are trying to re establish the humble diesel engine as a viable alternative to the gasoline powered engine. One great thing in favor for the diesel engine is the fact that there is some fantastic publicity going around for Bio Diesel, which is going to fuel F1 cars in the future, so maybe the humble diesel engine is not dead and buried, just lying in wait.
